In the heart of SoHo, we were selected to build 45R’s NYC flagship store, designed by Yun Architecture. Sustainability is the store’s overriding focus, expressed through authentic Japanese craft that runs consistently throughout. Working closely with the owner and design team to realize their vision, we used reclaimed Japanese materials and traditional techniques so that much of the woodwork and stonework can be disassembled and reused, preserving the integrity of each piece for decades to come. Throughout, we applied Shikkui Royal Japanese plaster, a finish used for thousands of years to coat the walls of royal buildings in Japan. Naturally non-toxic and air-purifying, it gives the space a refined, healthy character while staying true to the project’s environmental principles.
